The Best Hair Relaxer for Your Hair

When people ask what is the best hair relaxer, I always tell them that from everything I have researched, I believe the best type is a conditioning lye relaxer.

There is a huge ongoing debate on whether no-lye is better than lye and an even bigger one on whether or not you are better off without a relaxer all together.

Here is what I have to say about that:

  1. Your hair is as healthy as your are knowledgeable on how to care for your hair! Period! There are some people who are "natural" and walking around bald because they have tight braids and/or twists installed or they do not have a healthy hair regime. Your natural hair can be just as dry and as someone's processed hair if you do not care for it properly.
  2. Relaxers do break down hair strands BUT you can repair the damage. The key is not to over process your hair, correctly neutralize, and maintain moisture by following a healthy hair regime. ALWAYS try your very best to have a professional install and care for your relaxed hair. Any relaxer can cause damage if it is not applied properly.
  3. If you have an extremely sensitive scalp you can get a no-lye but it will dry your hair out! You will have to work hard to maintain any moisture. Try deep conditioning, moisturizing, and pre-pooing on a regular basis. It also causes calcium buildup so you should use a chelating shampoo, (which contains EDTA like ORS aloe shampoo), to cleanse the hair. Some people even add oil to their no-lye relaxer.

There are other black hair relaxer tips that you should follow. Installing and caring for your relaxed hair will save you a lot of money in the long run.

I have done it all! I have dyed my hair at the same time that I installed my relaxer. I have relaxed my hair immediately after removing braids and even worse, I have relaxed my hair right before I had braids put in.

If you decide to relax your hair, please educate yourself. There is a lot of false information out there and a lot of junk on the shelves in stores. Save your hair and your child's hair.

As for best brands of hair relaxer, pay attention to the ph and the ingredients.
